Civil Engineering Materials: Cement

This is my first presentation in my second semester
The topic focus on CEMENT
Our group members: Shira, Hong, Phon, Ting and me

1)The excessive of water in the concrete mix will form voids and honeycombs. Define this two terms by using the picture to illustrate the problems.
2)The usage of sea water causes dampness, surfaces efflorescence, staining and risk of steel corrosion. Define the problems by using the diagrams.
3)There are several types of cement that available in the market. Listed and differentiate among them. Use the photo if necessary.
4)How Portland cement is made? Explain the impact of cement industry to construction demand in Malaysia. Give the name of companies of cement production.
5)Explain the procedure in experiment laboratory to determine the properties of cement such as fineness and soundness of cement. Also explain how this factors affect the properties of cement?

Cement

-A substance which sets and hardens independently, and can bind other materials together.
-The word "cement" traces to the Romans, who used the term "opus caementicium" to describe masonry which resembled concrete and was made from crushed rock with burnt lime as binder.
- Cement refers only to the dry powder substance used to bind the aggregate materials of concrete.
