A Study on UTHM Students Satisfaction of WIFI Services

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Wireless Fidelity, also known as WIFI, allows you to connect to the Internet from your home or office as long as your computer is configured with a WIFI certified radio. Wireless LAN enables computers and handsets to use radio technology to send and receive data from virtually anywhere.
While the importance of offering quality education is paramount, for many university that are embattled in their quest to retain students, attention to food services especially the advanced in technology is taken into serious consideration. Administrators must, therefore, consider the total offering which includes WIFI services. Hence, we have done a study to investigate the WiFi services provided by UTHM.

1.2 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
WIFI system in University is a must to help student to access the Internet to do their research for the study. For this study, we choose WIFI system in UTHM as our field of study because university area is a place where student, lecturers and staff gather to do their daily study or work. In other words, we can describe WIFI system as ‘food’ for all those authorities concerned in a UTHM because it plays a big role and is essential in a University.

1.3 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Over the years, UTHM students are increasing each year and the needs to access to the internet from the student has been increasing automatically. Students of UTHM need to access to the internet to do their study, research for homework, group task , assignment, pass up homework through e-mail, get latest information or changes through e-learning or even for their project for those final year student. But, the WIFI system does not meets student ‘s requirement in their study. There are still a lot of problem exists when the users access the internet. The actions should be taken by the authorities to solve the problem of WIFI system.

1.4 PURPOSE
Given the uprising numbers of students of UTHM, this leads to the increasing needs of student to access to the internet, there may cause insufficient of WIFI hotspots in a particular area including residential colleges of UTHM such as TSN, TF, TDI, PERWIRA, MELEWAR, and also areas like main campus and city campus.
In response to this predicted possible concern, a study case was done to investigate the issue. The purpose of the study described in our study was to investigate the services of WiFi system provided and hopefully the result of this research report can help to improve current WIFI system in UTHM.

1.5 OBJECTIVES
To investigate the satisfaction of students about WIFI system in UTHM.
To determine the problems of UTHM WIFI system.
To find out the effect whenever student cannot access to internet.

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
Reduce the problem of the internet users of UTHM when access the internet
To determine if the university need to improve the WIFI system.
Through this study, Pusat Teknologi Maklumat(PTM) of UTHM can have a detailed feed backs, opinions, suggestions from student about the WIFI system and this can help them to improve the WIFI system to meet student’s requirement for their study.
With better WIFI system students, staffs, and lecturers can complete their work in shorter time and the outcome of their works are more efficiency.

1.7 RESEARCH SCOPE
Tun Syed Nasir Residential College, Tun Fatimah Residential College, Tun Dr. Ismail Residential College, Perwira Residential College, Melewar Residential College.
Student from year 1 to year 4 are randomly picked for questionnaire.
There will be about 5 to 15 questions to be asked in questionnaire.
Research will be done during school day and all research shall be completed according to programs plan.

1.8 RESEARCH OF QUESTIONS
The aim of the research questions here is to identify whether or not the WIFI system had fulfilled the standard requirement for all users. The research question is:
The connectivity of WIFI system in University of Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) meets the requirement of all students?

1.9 LIMITATION OF STUDY
The limitations are caused by respondent’s perception of WIFI connectivity at a particular area.
The limitations are also due to the scope of students selected which is mainly from the main campus and Residential College. Additionally, wrong information gathered in the finding would also make the research inaccurate. Factors such as loss of questionnaire forms, uncompleted data and other problems would contribute further to the errors in the research.

1.10 ASSUMPTION
All respondents gave their full co-operation.
All the answers for the questionnaires were true and based on the students perception of internet connection.
The sample is capable of represent the population of student.
